WikiDot.com type Adsense ads – Do they make sense on WordPress.com ?`
-
I noticed the way wikidot.com hosts ads. They either ask you NOT to use ANY ads on your wikidot.com wiki, or they ask you to optionally sign up for a free adsense plan offered by wikidot themselves using google’s adsense. You get paid 80% of the generated revenue, while wikidot gets 20% which helps them maintain wikidot.com better (hence they encourage the use of that service) and at the same time keeps your wallet growing.
So I started this thread so that I can ask if a similar pay-as-you-earn revenue sharing scheme is possible on wordpress.com. And since in its current state, WP has no ads, this would only bring profit to wordpress.com AND make users happier.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.COM already runs Adsense on your blog. You have the option of upgrading and to remove the ads from your blog.
This is the current business model on WordPress.com and who knows if and when it will change.
This is also not news. Click on the “adsense” tag you added to this thread and then be prepared to do some reading.

But this type of adsense is different right ?
I mean, I NEVER found any ads on my blog. Nor can I choose where to put them if I find them here. The current model involves randomly forced ads which can be a pain, while I am talking about optional 100% present ads.

Actually, it wouldn’t decrease WP.com’s revenue. There are lots of us who are willing to put up ads on our blogs, which otherwise have no ads.
As of now, wordpress hardly hosts any ads. This would actually increase the amount of ads hosted by wordpress.com.
Besides, to ensure that cash flows their way, wordpress.com can ALSO try a credit system, where instead of money WP credits would be given. This way both wordpress and its bloggers benifit.

It may increase the NUMBER of ads on WP.com blogs, but if it decreases WP’s cut of the ads, it doesn’t make much sense, especially as that would be in competition with the externally-hosted WP blogs.
And you’ve obviously never seen the ads on a WP.com blog; I’ve heard of up to eight separate bars of ads on a single post.

@raincoaster – I haven’t but screenshots would be really useful if you or anyone else sees something like that. We stay well within the Adsense rules.
