Will 2.5 migrate to free WordPress?

  I just read all about the changes coming to version 2.5 of the WordPress that people use with their own hosts.

  I’m wondering if that also means we will be seeing these changes on the free service too?

  I guess I should have looked around here first before going off on my own, but I’ve been investigating about posting to WordPress from an iPod Touch/iPhone:

  So if these 2.5 changes will be coming to the free WordPress service too, I’ll have to begin all over again once the change is made.

  No, it doesn’t really work like that. I’m not sure what an iPod has to do with WordPress, but WordPress.com and independent WordPress don’t work in lockstep. Sometimes we get to try out things that independent WP has to wait for, sometimes the other way around, and there are entire groups of things they can do that we can’t and probably won’t for years.

  FYI, iPod Touch has WiFi and I’ve been testing its ability to post with it.

  Okay, I follow that but the real issue is it appears you’ve been blogging about posting to WP.com and you’re wondering if you’re going to have to change that when they upgrade to WP 2.5, right? They’re not going to do that exactly, but they are always upgrading. Things WILL change. So technical posts about WP.com do become obsolete and will require updating or replacing from time to time.

  Will you be seeing changes? Yes
  What about the code? You are already using a lot of it.
  What about the eye candy? That will arrive here.

  What about ipod / iphone? There may or may not be something but as the ownership of those is really really tiny I wouldn’t expect something right now. To date I am aware of 1 request about the iphone and a couple of blog posts. From 2,500,000 users that is not a high demand. As for whether it works, I know that Matt and a couple of the others use iphones so they will know.
