Will $99 upgrade provide direct email support from WordPress or just forum?
-
Will the $99 upgrade allow me to get direct email support from WordPress Happiness Engineers or will I still have to rely on the forum? People have tried to help me but I am hugely frustrated. I do NOT want to host my own blog–that would be even more complicated. The problem is that I want to do a bookworm blog with a featured image. A number of people said to just use Posts rather than Pages but that made it worse. It has been a total drag and I have spent about 20 hours writing, revising and editing and getting little accomplished.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Direct support by email is available to all of us but that does not mean that Staff are about to hold hand and educate you on the ins and outs of blogging. There are millions of bloggers here and few support Staff. To blog here at WordPress.com you have to be a self starter with good English reading comprehension skills, who can and who will follow written instructions.
Getting direct email support from Staff which we can all do without any upgrade, simply means you will be waiting longer (several days or more) to get answers to questions that you can get quick answers to here on the peer support forums from Volunteers like myself, raincoaster and the other Volunteers.
I have read other threads you have posted and even responded to one here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/long-after-the-journey-narrative-pages-or-posts?replies=13#post-1650838
Bottom line: I’m very sorry but my reality is that I am multitasking from my business. I don’t have the time nor the energy to assist anyone, who does not have solid reading comprehension skills, so I that is why I stopped responding to you in that thread.

A Post is not a Page.

Featured Header Images
If a featured image is assigned to a page or post, the image will appear as a background to the header (in place of the custom header, if one is set). http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/book-lite/

I understand–you are a kind-hearted soul who has already been very patient and helpful.
Regarding my reading comprehension skills: I spent more than a decade as a professional science writer interpreting complex articles dealing with psychology, neuroscience, comparative ethology, and the economics and politics of health care.
I wrote hundreds of pages of science and health-based content, including for the web, and have assisted people with writing clear and comprehensible letters.
I am simply not tech-savvy when it comes to using a blog and figuring out how to use widgets etc. I studied music for many years and was reasonably good at it–and I know people who are brilliant at other things but are tone-deaf.
In any case, you have responded more than others and I will see if I can figure this out with further scrutiny.
One tip might be helpful: what would be an easier theme to use for my purposes? I really like book lite and spent hours today jockeying back and forth between that and other themes before deciding I still preferred it.
Also, there is a post on the support forum that states you can reverse chronological order by altering the end of the URL—that seems like it could cause some of the same problems, however, as falsifying the dates (i.e., 404 Errors). (And naturally the URLs on my blog did not look like the ones in the example unless I was looking in the wrong place).
Anyway, thanks again.

I do understand that posts and pages are not the same thing.
Perhaps I will just do written content for awhile then go back and see if I can add images, and just stick with the static front page.I will see if I can figure out how to use a sidebar to guide readers.
Honestly, maybe I should just publish an ebook. That would be effortless for me.

I don’t know what it is that you like about that theme or which features you consider to be important so I cannot suggest another theme.

Blogs are essentially a reverse chronological order publishing tool wherein the most recent published post will display on top. You cannot change this order on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. It’s designed to serve your visitors as they come to read the most recent posts and will not be inclined to trawl through hundreds of posts to locate it.
See here for the option of creating a book-like structure > http://en.support.wordpress.com/write-a-book/ Perhaps that will work for you.
Or you could use a single sticky post as an index page > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts
Or you can falsify every date-stamp before publishing. But if you are thinking you can just change datestamps on Posts over and over then think again and read this > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/05/avoid-creating-404-pages/

Breakthrough: I figured out how to use the Sticky Post option: note that the way this showed up in my browser did not look like the graphics on the wordpress.com page.
So this looks good, and I think I will just use posts for the rest of the blog and take it from there.
Thanks for all the help!
