will blog slow down if…
-
Hello again,
My blog url is http://www.sotsil.wordpress.com.
Given the nature of my blog (food), I can see putting up more pictures and slide shows in the future. I like doing this because Windows Live Writer makes it so easy for me. Is there a limit to how much one can post in terms of size of images and amount of slideshows? So far, I am NOT experiencing problems of a slowdown, but I wonder if that’s just because it’s my blog. Would others experience a slowdown if they were to access it from another computer, I wonder? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If your posts become image and slideshow intensive, my suggestion is to limit the number of posts that show on pages to say 3 or 5 maximum. If you have a lot of images in posts, then probably limit it to three. This is done at settings > reading.
Also, make sure and optimize your images before uploading them so that the individual image file sizes are under 50k. This FAQ talks about optimizing images: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/08/optimise-your-images/ .
It is always good to keep your visitors in mind – as you are – since there is still a good number of them on dialup and slow DSL (256k).

Thank you sacred path. I appreciate the prompt response. When you say “limit the number of posts that show…”, my theme layout is such that my most current post appears in its entirety, and right below that are “other recent posts”; i.e. just the titles without the full posts. Did you mean that I should re-set my layout so that the titles are limited to 3 per page? I guess I’m not sure what post in this context would mean, but if you noticed, there’s just one complete post on my blog.

With that particular theme, you will be fine and won’t need to make that adjustment. With most other themes, however, it’s good advice.
