will buying my existing domain cause my website to go offline until I have uploaded my WordPress one

  I would like to create a new website and host it on WP. However my HTML site is live and hosted with a different provider. If I transfer my domain name to WP do I risk my website being offline for the lenght of time it takes me to create my new WP?
