Will Deleting Image from Media Library Remove it From Linked Posts?
-
I would like to delete my images in my media library so that I have more space for future blog posts. If I delete images that are linked to blog posts, will those images be removed from those posts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes — the image link will be broken. If you delete any image from your Media Library that you have embedded into a post, page or placed inside a text widget or image widget it will not be there when any visitor’s browser calls for it to be displayed.

If you’re talking about the blog linked to your username, you only have two posts, so what “more space” are you looking for? Each wp.com blog comes with a free 3GB storage space for uploaded files: that’s enough for thousands of images – provided you don’t waste your storage space by uploading unnecessarily large files.
For best quality, upload images downsized to a pixel width not exceeding the maximum for the theme you’re using – see here:

http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/On another issue: the more images on your front page, the slower the page will load, plus too much scrolling down isn’t user-friendly; you should use the more tag to truncate your posts:

Thank you both for your reply… As you can tell… I am new to WordPress. I currently have been uploading relatively large files from aperture and wanted to try to find a better way to manage/store these files so that I do not run out of space in the future. In the future I will export those files to desktop in smaller format so that it doesn’t eat my space up.

When/if you ever run out of space (and in six years I never have) you can always just register another blog, upload images to that and hotlink them in your main blog (Insert by URL).

I’ve received a message that I’ve reached my limit and unable to add more photos .. I don’t upload videos to my blog site and was surprised that I’d reached a limit. Wd the best solution be to purchase the 5GB update?

If you have been uploading HUGE images then this can result in using up your space rapidly. We Volunteer recommend optimizing all images and presizing them to fit into the spots we want to place them in so we conserve our space. Remarkably while helping people in these forums we have discovered many bloggers do not do that. They are uploading huge images. For space upgrade information see here.
