Will deleting images from Media library deleting them from posts?

Basically, that’s my question. While my space is fine, the number of images have skyrocketed since my grandson was born and I set up a blog for his parents of his days while they work (I watch him). My library has hundreds of images, so uploading new ones is slow.

By the way, love the new home page set-up. It was easy to find information about deleting Media (I also learned about the Media tab! Duh!). You guys are incredible!

I see it’s not possible to edit support questions. Please overlook my grammatical errors! I call it Grandma-brain.

Yes, it will delete them from posts. And please always include a link to the blog, starting with http, when you post a question. It helps us answer accurately.

Thank you for your prompt response.

I apologize, my main account blog link showed up on its own, so I thought that went through to support staff.

As a follow-up, may I ask, then, if there’s any way around the slow uploading process when hundreds are already in the library? Am I making the most of uploading photos?

Your whole library doesn’t load everytime you look at your site! Only the images on the page or post load for you and your readers to see.

Images should be optimized for the web before uploading and smaller than say 50 or 60 KB.

Thanks 1tess, for getting back to me so quickly. I regret I did not express my question clearly enough, so I’ll give it another shot.

I’m aware the library doesn’t load while viewing or working with the site. Rather, my question pertains to when I upload photos when adding a new blog, and that is the process which takes increasingly long.

    My process:

    Add new blog.
In the blog, I upload photos from my computer.
Then, one-by-one I insert them into my blog from the media library icon in the blog.
Every time I go to insert another, it seems all photos in the library upload again, increasingly slowly. And, I have a fast computer. I might be making a simple process difficult.

    Does this make sense?

I’ll check out the optimization aspect and resizing, although I was under the impression WordPress did that in the uploading process. Even so, the ones currently in the library will not be optimized, so still slow. This wasn’t a problem until I hit around 500.

Thanks for being on today’s support team!

Ah. You should realize that we are your fellow bloggers volunteering help in these forums. Staff looks in only sometimes.

Sorry I can’t help with the time it takes to upload question. Perhaps uploading optimized images would make it a bit swifter?

WordPress will resize your pictures, but doing it yourself will give you better colors and sharpness.

WordPress does not optimize your images when you upload them. But it also should not slow down when you add more images. Thanks to changes in the technology at WP.com, I see uploading is now FASTER than when I joined three years ago, and I’ve uploaded an average of three images a day for three solid years.

There must be some other reason. I just can’t think of what it might be. But it’s not the uploader itself, I don’t think.

Thank you, raincoaster. I’ll keep working with it, in the context of your and 1tess’ feedback. And, I haven’t accessed Media through the Dashboard yet (before today, I hadn’t been aware of the breadth of its features). That might make a difference. WP.com has improved in leaps and bounds, such that I haven’t fully been able to keep up and need to spend a morning doing so.

I agree, the uploader is much faster than even a couple of years ago.

Resize and optimize are two different issues.
