Will deleting my account free up a deleted domain?
-
Some two years ago, I deleted an empty wordpress site of mine. However, I’d like to actually use it’s domain now, but there’s seemingly no way to reclaim the domain for some reason. Would deleting my profile free up the domain for reuse? It’s a bit strange that it’s impossible to reclaim a deleted domain…

Was this the site in question?
thedollshelf.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.Deleted domains ending in WordPress.com can be recovered within 30 days of deletion. After that they are gone forever. This support document https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ says:
Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address.
Deleting your profile won’t gain you access to a deleted WordPress.com addressed site, it will just mean your profile will be lost forever too.
PS: I see this thread has been tagged for a response by a member of staff. Perhaps you could choose one of the new free WordPress.com domains ending in .home.blog or similar (or of course upgrade to a paid plan and maybe then get your domain of choice but with a different suffix to .wordpress.com). -
Hi @thedollshelf, I can confirm a name deleted two years ago would not be available now. You’re welcome to use any of the .blog subdomains listed here though:
