Will deleting pictures remove them from existing posts?

Will deleting images from my library remove them from my posts? My space is running out, but I don’t want to lose the existing images from my blog posts.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi thesmittenlife,

Yes it will but they might still be displayed for up to a few days as they are cached.

    Hope this helps. :)

The images will be deleted from the posts or pages leaving behind ugly broken links. All WordPress.com blogs come with 3000 megabytes (~3 GBs) of space for storing uploaded files and images. If you need more space you can purchase a Space Upgrade http://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/

I don’t recommend relying on this but you can hotlink to images in your other WordPress.com blogs. The workaround is to register another blog and use the Media Library in it.

Do note that hotlinking images from another WPcom site will not allow those images to be used as Featured Images or as a part of a Gallery. In both those cases, the images need to be uploaded to the site where they will be used.

Good points re: hotlinked images can’t be used for headers, featured images, or as part of a gallery. Thanks so much for being on top of the images questions and answers.

    And *headers*! Of course. :)

I don’t recommend hot-linking and I think it’s fair to say you don’t either, right?

If I’m hotlinking my own images, no problem.

On the other hand, I’ve had gammagirl for 7 years now and have only bitten off 4% of my 3GB of free space thanks to always optimizing my images before uploading them. So it constantly amazes me to hear people say they’re running out of storage space.

Having said that, if it did happen to me, I’d rather choose the space upgrade over hotlinking just for the reasons we’ve mentioned above.

(And wish TPTB would add the space upgrade to the Gift Upgrades.)

Since August 2007 I have used 148.4 MB out of 3.0 GB upload limit (5%).

Good idea. Why not post that into the Ideas Forum?

Sorry, had to dash for cover.

Your usage on onecoolsite isn’t surprising because, of course, the primary focus of your site is text and not photography. Image heavy sites should heed the many related posts in these forums, the support docs and on your, my and other people’s websites about image optimization.

There’s absolutely no advantage in uploading images straight out of one’s camera or phone at huge dimensions and high resolutions only to have them then drastically resized and reduced to be viewed on computer screens and smartphones. It’s an enormous waste of storage space.

Will do, just as soon as I finish this bowl of double fudge chocolate ice cream.

That’s exactly why I published this post Cropper or Proper Image Preparation?

P.S. Stay safe and pray for peace.
