Will domain mapping effect my new site?

  I want to switch my domain from ontariosswa.wordpress.com (which is a terrible address) with osswa.ca (which I already own). I started building up the website on wordpress.com and I would like to keep adding to it. I don’t want to lose everything I put on it though when I use domain mapping (which for business reason, I cannot do until next week).

  Thanks for any advice anyone can give me, I am a total newbie with all of this.

  If you would like to use your domain name purchased elsewhere and map from your free hosted wordpress.com blog to it, then you will first need to set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

  Will it effect anything that I already put up on the blog? Will I have to start over creating it?

  I worry that it will wipe the blog clean and I’ll have to start again.

  No. All that will change is the URL.
