Will having a tiny amount of products in my e-commerce website speed it up?

I’m managing my first e-commerce website for a client. The issue is I’m working with a cheap hosting plan that doesn’t include CDN or object caching (it would be Redis if it did), the website runs pretty slowly and the client is proposing I delete most of the product pages (and therefore images) so that it speeds up.

I’d like to get a notion of how beneficial this move could be. We have nearly 600 products up right now, say I cut it down to 100. Will that speed up the website in any significant way?

Or do I have no choice but to propose we upgrade the hosting plan so it affords better options?

(I tried a middle option of installing a free caching plugin, and it improved speed but not by that much, AND it broke the site CSS so I deleted it after the workarounds didn’t work for me. Before setting up cache with another plugin I’d like to get a sense of whether that’s even a good option if I can’t use all the plugin functions because of the hosting plan limitations.)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
