Will I lose my site if I cancel Bluehost?

I currently have a WordPress.com site for my online portfolio and I use Bluehost to host it. Firstly, is that even necessary? I really only need the most basic features for my website, so I would rather not pay so much for hosting, the domain, and security if possible. Secondly, if I cancel my current hosting plan or domain name, will I lose my WordPress site? Thanks.

  • Hey there, to have a site at all you’ll need hosting somewhere, but what you described may be a good fit for our services. First, you’ll want to note the differences between our managed hosted services and the free WordPress software. Here’s the gist, and this article has more information.

Regarding your domain: if you’re going to keep managing your own copy of WordPress, I’d definitely recommend keeping your domain. If you’ll be hosting here, you could pick an attractive name (juliarenjackson.art.blog for example?) and make that your primary address, whether you have a free tier site or one of our paid plans. You can find a feature comparison here. Personally I’d recommend the Personal or Premium plan for most cases, but free has its benefits too.

Does that help? I could keep going but I don’t want to overwhelm you with info, so let us know what question you have and how we can help.
