Will I still be able to keep my current e-mail address when I move to wp.com?

I am re-designing my website from one that is in wp.org and hosted elsewhere to one that will be in wp.com. Will that affect my domain name and e-mail address or can it just all be transferred over?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello,
I assume you have some custom domain name, then, on your wp.org-based site.
1. Are you going to use that domain with your wp.com site?
2. Where is your email hosted right now? (e.g., Your current hose like HostGator, etc., or Gmail, Yahoo Mail?)Wherever you registered your domain name (registrar,) you should contact them to have your DNS records updated. What they can do is have your domain name point to one place for email, and another place for your website.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
Yes I have a custom domain name on my wp.org-based site and associated custom e-mail address. I’ll be using the same domain name on my wp.com site. My e-mail and domain are currently hosted by Just Host. From what you say then, I should contact Just Host and ask them to continue to host my e-mail and have my domain name point to wp.com – Is that correct? I am not sure what you mean by DNS records. Thanks

Hi,
Yes, you are almost correct.
DNS records tell “yourdomain.com” what server(s) to point to for different services (website, email, etc.)
A lot of times, you want the domain pointing to the same server for all services. Here in your case, you want the domain to point to wp.com for your website, but to Just Host for your email.
It sounds like you registered your domain name through Just Host originally? That makes Just Host your “Registrar,” and they can control DNS records for your domain.
Your registrar needs to set what’s called an “MX record” for you domain name to keep using Just Host. MX is “mail exchange” — for your email.
They will need to forward your web traffic to wp.com, though.
Just Host should be able to do all this for you; It’s in line with normal duties for a registrar.
Shout if you need more help, and good luck!

Hi, I’ve contacted Just Host about pointing my domain to wp.com and they said they need the nameservers so that they can change the nameservers of the domain to wordpress. Please can you let me know where I get these details from?
Thanks
Sharon -
Hello,
There are 3 nameserver addresses Just Host will need to add:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMThis information and more can be found here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/Please let me know if you need more.
Have a good day!

Hi,
I’m having a bit of a problem. My website is now showing through wp.com but Just Host failed to point my email to go through them, so it is not working. They say that as the nameservers have now been changed to WordPress, they can’t change it. Can someone help and point my email back to go through Just Host?
Sharon -
Hi Sharon,
You will need a bit of information from Just Host to do this. Please ask them what MX Record is needed to point to their email on their system. Then, you can add a custom MX record from your WordPress.com account. The following page shows how that is done:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/This lets your domain name point to one server for web service (i.e., your WordPress.com site,) while using another server for email (i.e., Just Host.)
Please let me know if you get stuck in this process — I know how bothersome it can be to have your email disrupted.
Thanks,

Hi Paul,
When I contacted Just Host yesterday, they told me that I needed to create an A record called mail pointing it to 173.254.28.43 and then to create an Mx record called mail.pacecounselling.co.uk. They said they could do this from their end, which they did but it’s still not working. Should I still go ahead and create both an A record and an MX record from my wp end (or is it just an MX record I need?) and if so, do I need more info from them or do I use the digits they have given me? Does the priority set at 10 automatically or do I need to change this? Sorry about all of this, but I’m a bit confused still! Thanks for your help. Sharon -
Hi Paul,
Since my last message, I have contacted Just Host again and they say I just need to create an A record called mail.pacecounselling.co.uk pointing to 173.254.28.43 and don’t need to do an MX record as well. So, I’ve done that. I’d be grateful if you could advise as to whether this is sufficient to get my e-mail working properly. Many thanks, Sharon -
Hi Sharon,
The A record for mail.pacecounselling.co.uk sounds normal, so that’s good.
In my experience, you usually would ALSO need an MX record set up for email to work. Perhaps Just Host works differently.I think you should add an MX record.
The details are at:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/
They have a screenshot where they are adding an MX record. You need to “Add New DNS Record” as such:
1. Select “MX” from the popup.
2. Enter “pacecounselling.co.uk” in the first textbox.
3. Enter “mail.pacecounselling.co.uk” in the second textbox after “handled by.”
4. Enter “10” in the last textbox after “with priority.”
5. Click Add and Save.I think that should take care of this mail issue full circle for you. Please let me know how it goes.
Thanks,

It’s all working fine now Paul. Many thanks for your help in resolving the issue. Sharon
