Will I use my free plan blog if I don’t upgrade after creator plan

Hi! I’m pondering the thought of trying out the creator plan for a week using the 7 day trial. How will that work?

I’ve read that my domain will change from .wordpress.com to .wpstaging.com, but does that mean that my site will still be live at the current URL and I’ll have a staging site at the new domain?

I will not use a top level domain for this experiment if I do try the trial.

I’ve also read that my site will be deleted if I don’t upgrade after the 7 days are over? That would suck to lose all I’ve written if I don’t upgrade. I’d like to go back then to the free trial and have everything be as it was before I tried the trial.

Is this possible? Please be as thorough as possible, thanks.

Sorry, the title should be Loose, not use. I can’t find a link to change my title.

Hi there, your current yoursite.wordpress.com site address will be changed to yoursite.wpcomstaging.com. The trial isn’t created on a separate staging site/address.

That would suck to lose all I’ve written if I don’t upgrade. I’d like to go back then to the free trial and have everything be as it was before I tried the trial.

By “go back to the free trial” I believe you mean go back to your free website?

According to this Support Guide the site you use while on the 7-day Creator trial is deleted if you don’t purchase the upgrade.

If you just want to try out the features of the Creator plan to see if it’s a good fit for you, I might suggest that you export your free site content to a new free WordPress.com website and trial the plan there instead. Then, if you decide the Creator plan is a good fit, you can create a backup of the trial site (before it expires), purchase the plan for your existing site and import the backup.

If you decide the plan is not a good fit for you, your free website remains unaffected.

It’s also worthwhile taking time to read earlier forum posts about what other WPcom users experienced when their Creator Trial expired.

I’ve also tagged Staff on your topic in case I’ve overlooked something in my reply. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

thank you for your reply. I will wait patiently for more replies.

I did think that trying out the trial on a new site or a test blog might be a good idea.

  • Hi there – as usual @justjennifer has covered things quite well, including the export and import (into a free site) idea! I do recommend re-reading our brief bit on how sites are handled if the Creator Trial expires so you can get a firm idea of the timing of things and for setting your own expectations.

Thank you @deancroyal for the information. I shall think on it and create a test blog if I will give the trial a try 😂.
