Will links to deleted old post come to new post of same name?

    I have a post that gets a ton of search traffic. It’s about where to get film developed by mail order.

    I’ve updated this post several times over the years with fresh info. But what I’d really like to do is post an update with the same title anew, so followers can see the update.

    If I do that, and delete the older post, will WordPress’s generous/fuzzy link-following ability drive searches from the old post link to the new post?

    For example, if the old post is blog.jimgrey.net/2012/04/01/xyz, and I delete it and create blog.jimgrey.net/2017/05/01/xyz, will all that sweet search traffic still land on my new post?
