Will links to media break if I upgrade to custom domain?
-
If I switch from a free domain to a custom domain through WordPress.com will I need update links TO media on pages/projects myself? Or will WordPress.com somehow map these links to media automatically?
I accidentally DID change my free domain name, and found that (even after purchasing a redirect) I still had to update the links to media from pages/projects myself, which I did. But is it any different if I purchase a domain through WordPress.com?
Thanks in advance.

If you upgrade to a custom domain name using domain mapping – all the old links will still work and be seamlessly be sent to the new custom name url – no need to run around the internet and change the links TO your blog

Thanks, auxclass!
I understand that upgrading to a custom domain won’t break links to my pages/projects from elsewhere on the web, or on the site itself. But what I’m worried about is that upgrading my domain will break links to WP.com hosted media that I have linked to on my pages/projects.
For example, PDFs have been uploaded to media, then have been linked to across 12 portfolio pages AND a static page. Are you saying that upgrading my custom name URL will not break links between my projects/pages and my WP.com hosted media files?
Again, many thanks.

If you have a WordPress.COM blog now – with ANY links to the media (PDF files for instance) on your site – upgrading to a custom domain name and mapping it will not break anything – in fact the media links stay the same (a quirk of domain mapping) – but at any rate – you don’t need to worry or change anything
