Will moving to wordpress.org affect SEO

    Hi,

    I have my blog at http://www.zatungames.com. If I move the blog to wordpress.org, will it afffect my SEO ?

    Yes. Search-Engine-Optimizing a .org blog is different from Search-Engine-Optimizing a .com blog. There are more options for .org blogs, since you can install a bunch of plugins but having been on both .com and .org, my personal opinion is that neither one is better than the other. It all comes down to how you use the tools you have at hand.

    Depending on your audience/traffic you may experience a drop in traffic when moving to .org, but you will be back up to where you were before in 2-3 months.

    If you keep the same domain name that you have and just point it at the new blog location at the new web host, you should lose virtually nothing. What you will be losing will be your exposure on the global tags pages and for many people that is a source of a good number of hits and visitors. For others though, not so much. Even if you don’t get a lot of hits from the tags pages, you still share in the page rank – which is considerable.

    As far as the basics, they are the same here and with a self-hosted blog. Write high-quality, original content, use appropriate tags and categories, have descriptive titles, and post regularly. Also make sure that your permalinks at the new blog are set up the same as they are here so that no links will end up broken. There is a setting under settings > permalinks for that.

    As far as all the SEO hype out there, some of it has now been proved to be bogus. Google finally publicly confirmed that they pay absolutely no attention to meta keywords – a big part of any SEO hype. The meta description tag might be paid attention to, but only in that they might (or might not) use it for the snippet to describe your blog in search results.
