Hello there,
scan1.PDF
Is this indeed a PDF file ?That is indeed a PDF file! Could you please tell me what happens when you try to upload this file? Do you receive an error message?
Could you attempt the upload directly from the classic dashboard and let me know if this helps:
https://enduringgloucesterdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
Simply click Add New, then upload the file. Once it’s uploaded, you can add it to your post.
For more information about adding PDF documents:

it only displays the text- the name of the file- not the image. i treied doing what you said- “uploading from the classic dashboard” by clicking on the link you gave me, but…..i couldn’t see where my blog was from there. all I see is the media library or whatever- all my images that i have downloaded or uploaded to put on my blog…

Hi there!
I see the issue. PDFs are document files. Because of this, WordPress.com identifies all PDFs as downloadable documents. They will only appear as links for your visitor to download.
However, if you want the image to display, it must be saved in an image format:
You can upload the following image types to a post or page on your WordPress.com blog:
- .jpg/.jpeg
- .gif
- .png
In order to display on your site, your image must be transformed from a PDF into one of those acceptable image formats.
If you don’t have the software to do this on your own computer, I found this free online application you can use:
http://www.freepdfconvert.com/pdf-image
That should do the trick! If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)

Yes- that free online did convert my PDF file to a JPG but I can’t save it or edit it or anything. I need to crop and rotate it but all the editing options are grayed out. This is probably not your problem. but although i do now have an image, the image is not usable. any ideas? thanks

Ah…very sneaky of the free site to limit you like that.
I searched online and found a page with some other options for you:
http://www.iskysoft.com/convert-pdf/how-to-convert-pdf-jpg.htmlAlso, if you can upload the jpeg to your site now, you can do a bit of photo editing here at WordPress.com.
Here are the instructions:

thank you ! I will try those ideas you suggested.
in the meantime, here’s my fall-back plan: I was able to print out a hard copy of that PDF file (which looke like an image to me!) I took a photo of that with my digital camera and uploaded that picture to my computer. if I need to, I will post THAT. ha! -
I love it! You “MacGyver”ed a solution :)
You could also take a screenshot, if you’d like. That might give you an even higher resolution image.
Here’s how:
