Will reach million views within 2 weeks – Should I write an article on this?

My blog (loneswimmer.com) will reach one million views in the next 10 to 12 days. That’s within a week or so of its 6th anniversary.

It started slowly, only 13,000 in the first year, growing year on year, in 2015 about 350,000, I average mid-20’s thousand per month.

Numbers do have a certain mystery or power, and one million remains one of those touchstones.

In the first year I did not even conceive of such a possibility. I can clearly recall when I realised that I might, might, reach 250,000 (in my fourth year) and it took months after the realisation. Once that happened, I still did not think I would still be blogging for 2 more years, getting better with more ideas, since I write about a niche aspect of a sport. But once I hit 600,000, the million started to become real.

Unofficially, including email subs, and RSS feeds, I would have already passed the million, this is purely inbound dashboard figures.

My question though, is do I mention it in an article? Do I write a blog retrospective or similar and talk about the place that writing the blog has brought me to (figuratively)?

I’m Irish, and the national tendency is to devalue our ourselves (“What, this old dress, nice? I only paid five Euros in a second hand shop”). Seeming to be bragging or boasting is a much loathed habit.

But I am proud of it, and of the place I’ve carved out within my sport for myself through it.

The question is, and what I’d like your opinion on, is on your thoughts or opinions on publicly celebrating such a milestone.
    Would it be offputting/boasting?
    Would anyone care except me?
Is it better to leave some mystery, and let others think I’m at two million?

I’d appreciate any thoughts, and thanks in advance.

I think there is nothing wrong with celebrating your hard-earned success. One million is certainly a goal worth celebrating. I think your idea about talking about what the blog has meant to you is a good one. You could also talk about some of the non-numerical goals (past, present, future) you have worked toward with your blog.

    Congratulations!

Forgot to mention the article (link below) on the Community Pool in the above message. It might be a good place to pose your question.

Thanks Paul. The number itself is some ways arbitrary, it’s our natural tendency to put patterns on things I suppose. I’m every wary about my above post, because the intention there really wasn’t to boast, but elicit some other experienced blogger’s thoughts about such a milestone, one that occurs after you figure out what you are dong, not the ones one might feel like after you get you first 10 followers, etc, if you know what I mean?

Sticking with a job and achieving success is a good thing and encourages others to keep working on their goals. If you don’t feel confident talking about # of views, (I’m not sure I understand enough about how they are tallied to advise on that and you might want to ask a specific question on the forum about views and what they mean), you can talk about your 6 years of hard work, how your number of followers has grown, how blogging has affected you and helped you make new connections, and what your hopes for 2016 are.
