Will scaling images after uploading them reduce the file size?

Will scaling images after uploading them reduce the file size to allow more images to be stored with the same amount of space?
It would be logical that it would be the case, but I cannot see image size after uploading and after scaling, so I cannot tell for sure.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Not that I’m aware of. They need to be optimized locally before uploading. Shoot for a file size under 100Kb.

When you upload an image, WP stores a (compressed) copy of it. If you scale it down afterwards, WP will display a smaller version but the original remains stored (because you must be able to undo the changes).
So, to save space, you need to downsize the images prior to uploading, using an image editing application or an online tool. The 3GB of free space you’ve got is enough for many thousands of properly sized images.
The images you’ve been uploading are too large. Before I tell you more on this: At the moment they link to a larger view of the image alone when clicked. Is that intentional or not? Are you aware of the available options?PS Notawoodpecker’s “under 100Kb” suggestion is quite arbitrary.

Arbitrary. One can upload images under 50 kb which would be sufficient for authors / viewers of most blogs.
