Will the comments of a deleted account go away after 30 days?
-
Hello,
Several years ago, as an immature high schooler, I made several comments on an obscure, now-abandoned blog that some of my friends & I used to use meant to be offensive “jokes” that I now see as just being incredibly rude & in poor taste. Seeing no other way to remove them, I deleted both my WordPress and Gravatar accounts thinking that this would remove the comments, but they are still there under my old username. I did read somewhere, however, that deleting/closing a WordPress account will delete all content formerly associated with it – would this even include comments left 3 or more years ago? I really hope so – because now I’m locked out of the now-non-existent account I used to make such awful comments.

I can’t even email WordPress customer support directly and have to leave my comment on a public forum where it will be buried and not even answered. Great service.

Hi there, in general the community forums tend to be slower on the weekends and as this is a public holiday weekend in some places, it might take a bit longer before someone can answer your question.
It’s my understanding that comments made on someone else’s WPcom site can only be deleted by the site owner, Administrator or Editor of that site. If you deleted your account, it doesn’t delete either comments you’ve left under that account or posts created under that account that you didn’t remove before deleting your account.
With all the changes in Privacy recently, I’ve also flagged this thread for Staff input on this question. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

I wasn’t even able to remove the comments in the first place, or I would have. That’s why I deleted my account. Now the comments are stuck and I can’t delete them and have no way in getting in contact with the former owners of the site.

Hi,
as @justjennifer mentioned, only the owner of the site can remove a comment from their site. You wouldn’t be able to do that even if your account was still active.
The comments will also not be removed after the account closure, however, clicking on your username will not lead anywhere, since the account does not exist anymore. -
Thanks, but this doesn’t help me at all. You just re-stated my issue. So basically you’re saying there is no solution I take it?

Hi there,
Commenting on a thread to bump it, makes it take longer to get a reply, as we work on threads from the oldest to the newest.
If you leave a comment on someone site, that comment belongs to the site owner from that point forward, and only the site owner can delete it. While WordPress.com staff does have that ability, we don’t remove content from a site without the site owner’s consent under any circumstances, with the only exception being if that content violates our terms of service.
I understand that is frustrating. However, we do not tolerate rude or disrespectful behavior towards any staff member or volunteer in this forum. I’ve deleted your comment containing profanity above. Any further posts or comments like that in this forum will result in your ability to post in this forum being suspended.
