will this change past posts

I’ve been blogging for a long time on WordPress (13 years), and I have hundreds of posts on three separate blogs. Will this new editor have an impact on all those hundreds of posts? Also, can I keep the format I have now? Because I don’t like the look of those block posts in your examples.

  • Hi @waltzingaustralia, I’ve been blogging for a long time too. It hasn’t affected my sites at all, except with new posts.

If you try to edit an older post, you’ll be asked whether you want to convert to blocks. You can say no.

If you’re worried, you can copy the post first to be safe, but you’ll also have revisions you can use if needed:

Does that help? If not, send more details and we’ll go from there.

Thanks for the response. What about new posts? Will they suddenly look completely different from old posts?

  • Hi there,

New posts you create with the block editor should look no different than posts you created with the classic editor. Unless you choose to make them look different.

What changes here is the way you create your posts, and the blocks give you a lot more options in terms of how you can arrange your content in the post. For example, you can nest blocks inside other blocks to create interesting layouts with columns, grids, different sections, etc., or you can force content to appear across the full width of the page instead of within the borders of the content area (provided your theme supports full-width alignment).

So it still depends on how you create your posts, and if you create them the same as before, just typing text and inserting the occasional image, they will look the same as before. But you also have more options now if you want to get creative :)
