Will upgrading to Premium lose my website’s SEO?
-
- I own the blog: https://myweb.wordpress.com
I want to upgrade to Premium and change the domain name to https://myweb.com
I own many keywords and articles that reach the TOP 10 of Google. I’m afraid that after changing the domain name, it will affect my website’s SEO?
2. My website has about 300 page views every day, does that cover the Premium upgrade cost of about $8/month?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@aieces it’s not upgrading to the Premium plan that will have an impact on your SERPs, but changing your site address. This is normal. If you do decide to change your site address SERPs should eventually recover, but you’ll want to add your domain property to GA4 and resubmit your sitemap.
FWIW, You are not obligated to use a custom domain when you upgrade to the Premium plan. You can continue to use your original myweb.wordpress.com address.
I’m not sure what you’re asking in your second question. Are you thinking of applying to WordAds and have your ad earnings pay for your expenses of upgrading? If so, you would need to use a custom domain on your site in order to join WordAds (see next paragraph) and from staff replies in previous forum threads, it takes thousands of monthly views to make any significant income from WordAds. Ads are bid for and placed in real time and ad earnings rates change all the time. Also note that payment for WordAds is through PayPal, so that needs to be available in your country. You may wish to review previous forum threads on WordAds.
If you are considering upgrading, keep in mind that a custom domain registration is included for the first year in the annual Premium upgrade, After the first year you’d pay for your domain renewal and plan separately.
Hope that helps, but if you have more questions, post back here.

Hi!
To add to what @2020testjj mentioned:- SEO will be affected to some limited level, and to make sure that’s minimized, after you upgrade and purchase your domain name you’d want to add it to Google Search Console, as explained here: Verify Your Site With Google Search Console.
It is also a good idea to go through our SEO guide. - If I understand correctly, you are referring to running ads on your site to cover the cost of the Premium plan upgrade. WordAds doesn’t have a fixed rate per visit nor we can predict if the content you share on the site will interest advertisers, we do have an FAQ you can check for all questions related to running Ads on your site.
You can also consider other monetization options, mentioned here.
To start with your plan upgrade you can go to WordPress.com/plans.
You can learn more about our plans here: Choose a WordPress.com Plan.
