Will wordpress start making text posts, and pages go towards the 3gb space limit

I am just wondering if wordpress would make text posts, and pages count towards the 3gb space limit?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Good Morning – Only the items in your Media Library count towards the 3GB of storage allocated to a free blog.

will wordpress change this in the future? Like would they make text posts, pages count towards the space limit? Or will it always just be what’s in your media library?

  • The storage has always been utilized by the Media Library and never for posts and pages. I do not believe that will change. I am not able to make promises or predictions about the decisions the company will make in the future, just reference the past and my own experiences.

Just a quick note about the Media Library. If you delete any items from the library that are featured on your blog, they will also be removed from your blog and in their place you will see a broken image icon.

From what I’ve seen all the other free website building sites don’t count texts posts or pages towards the storage limit either.

  • Text is very efficient when stored and does not take even a fraction of the amount of space that any image will take. This is why text is not counting towards the storage allowance on a free blog at WordPress.com.

so it will never count towards the space limit? Because none of the other sites with free plans count text posts, or pages towards it.

  • I am a volunteer and not employed by Automattic (the company that runs WordPress.com).

Currently, the only items that utilize the 3GB of storage with your free blog are items in your Media Library. Text, posts, and pages do not count towards it.

‘Never’ is a big word. I can say that text, posts, and pages have never counted towards your storage allocation at WordPress.com. Everything in life is subject to change.

If you’d like to hear from a staff member about this, I can help you get in touch with one. Just let me know how you would like to proceed.

upwardsup – I’m not sure what you’re trying to achieve, but this is not the first query of its kind that you’ve made here, and many people have already answered you. See here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/upwardsup

By constantly posting the same question over and over again you are, in effect, spamming the forum. These forums are run mostly by volunteers and are intended to help people with genuine concerns.

All the answers you’ve received have been accurate: WordPress.com will not make text post and pages count towards the 3Gb space limit, and that is because text takes up barely any space, but images and videos do.

If, in the future, you’re going to want to post images and/or video that take up more than the 3Gb space allowance will give you, then you’ll either have to pay for it or blog on a self-hosted site instead. But you don’t need to worry about going over any sort of limit with text or pages because they do not count at all in the 3Gb limit.

    Lizkarkoski that would be nice

  • Hey there,

As staff-zinnia said, text in posts and pages do not and will not count against your space limit. Only items added to your media player will go to that 3 GB limit.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks staff-doublebassd !

Anything could change in the future, but the likelihood of this changing now or even in the near future is extremely low so don’t get fixated on worrying about it, please.
