Will WP Work For Me And An Auction Site?

I apologize in advance because I know this is a very broad question, but this is the best outlet.
I have been buying and selling small collectable items on the famous auction site for a long time and have grown tired of all the fees that seem to have no upward limit. The latest has driven me to look into developing my own auction site and it seems like WP may have what I need.
I want a website that others can sign up and post pictures and items for sale. I want it searchable, and I need the ability to have the users post pictures of their items. And of course an interface to commerce exchange payment systems.
I have found a WP plugin that advertises itself as an ‘auction’ plugin for WP. I won’t name the plugin, but it’s not cheap.
If anyone has any input I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if there are website that kind-of matches my description that is already in place I would like to take a look to see how close it is to meeting my needs.

By the way, I can do my own development, and have domain name and hosting already in place. I also already have WP installed.

After reading that you will realize that wp.COM and wp.ORG are separate and very different though related.
You really need to post your question in the help forum for WordPress.ORG.
