Windows 98 problem
-
RE: http://graceblog.wordpress.com/
When viewed on Windoze 98 computers, the right hand column (calendar, widgets, etc.) moves way down to the bottom of the page. On XP computers it displays fine. What’s wrong and how can I fix it?
TIA

It shouldn’t have anything to do with the operating system (other than some “special effects”). It’s the browser that does the rendering. What browser and version is being used on the 98 computers? My wife has no problem viewing my blog on her Windows 98 computer set at 800×600 using MSIE 6.
I don’t have a 98 computer here at work to test it. I just sent an e-mail to my wife to have her test it. It may be a while before she replies. She sleeps late.

Wow.. my wife says it does the same thing on her computer. How peculiar. I wonder what in that theme is making it OS-specific like that. In all the years I’ve done development, I haven’t seen it break in that manner based on OS.
I’m looking at your blog again. Once thing I do notice is that the Game Giveaway graphic exceeds the width of the sidebar. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Whenever an image is placed in the sidebar or in the blogging space that is too large for the space the sidebar tends to fall to the bottom. In firefox 2.0.0.5 I can see the same thing abbydonkrafts sees the game a day giveway image does exceed the layout space. However, in firefox the sidebar does not fall to the bottom. I suggest removing the ‘free game” text widget and seeing if that resolves the problem when the blog is viewed via other browsers.

Looks like Internet Explorer 7 lets it overlap, too. I mostly use Opera 9, but I tested it with IE to see if it would have a problem, but it doesn’t.
*drumroll* ….
I tested it with Internet Explorer 6 on a XP laptop. Bingo! The bar went to the bottom. So that’s got to be the problem. It’s not the OS but how the various browsers handle quirks such as that image overflow.

Well it wouldn’t be the OS would it? Its probably an issue of width, specifically an item eg an image in a post that is too wide.
