Windows app prompts that there are unsaved changes when editing a draft
-
I’m using the Windows app (v. 2.8.0) to draft a blog post. When I try to navigate away from the page I receive a pop-up message that there are unsaved changes, even though I clicked the “Save” link in the upper-left below the menu bar.
Navigating away from the page shows that the draft is indeed saved, however.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Matt –
Thanks for getting in touch. Are you able to grab a screen shot of what you’re seeing? Also, which type of device is this happening on?

Hi Liz,
On the bright side, I can’t recreate the issue this morning with a new post. I did grab a few screen captures but I don’t see a way to attach those here.
I’m using a laptop running Windows 10 and version 2.8.0 of the WordPress windows application.
Today (correct behavior I assume):
If I hit the “back” arrow in the application (not a browser) in the upper-left while the post is in “Saving…” status, I receive a popup dialog that reads: “You have unsaved changes. Are you sure you want to leave this page?” Once the save is complete I hit the back arrow and return to the list of blog posts.Yesterday:
I would wait until autosave completed, the post status read “Saved”, but I would receive the popup dialog.Since this is working for me today I’m comfortable with you closing this support item. I’ll keep my eye open and if it happens again I’ll be sure to grab some screen shots.
Thanks for your prompt reply and willingness to help. :-)

Good Morning :)
I did grab a few screen captures but I don’t see a way to attach those here.
I should have explained that a bit further. If you add those screen shots to your media library I’ll be able to take a look at them.
Keep me posted on whether or not the issue reoccurs and I’ll take a closer look :)

Screenshots can be very helpful. You can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

Hi there,
This is a known issue, and happens in the browser interface as well, not just the desktop app.
We’ve mostly been observing this where a post contains a shortcode, especially for image galleries. Can you perhaps confirm if that’s what you see on your end as well? And can you check if you see the same thing happening with those posts in a browser?
-
I will be happy to post some screen captures when the issue happens again. So far, it hasn’t occured over the past couple days.
-
As it’s a known problem we don’t need screen shots, thanks, but any additional information on the circumstances in which it happens, or even just confirmation of our shortcode theory would be helpful :)
-
I mean like a [shortcode] like we use for image galleries, video and audio embeds, etc. The cases where we’ve been able to consistently replicate this issue have all been using one of those. If your image had a caption, that would also match as captions also use a shortcode.

Thanks for confirming that.
So we know what triggers this, but our developers haven’t been able yet to figure out why. But it’s safe to ignore that message when it appears right after publishing or updating a post.
