“windows cannot find hostname using DNS”
-
Ok so here’s the deal. I started a blog and then decided I didn’t want to have the .wordpress in the domain name so I followed the instructions to purchase a domain name and did everything that wordpress said to do to get things redirected. Well now I have a friend who can’t see the new site. He was able to view the webpage when it was the original .wordpress blog, but when I got the new name he stopped being able to view the page. I’m sorry if I’m not really clear enough–I don’t actually know much about this and all the terms and stuff.
What I do know is that everyone else I’ve talked to seems to be able to view the site just fine. So it may be a problem that is specific to him. But I would still like to be able to diagnose and fix the problem so he can view the site too.
He’s using Internet Explorer 8 and windows vista. When he tries to go to the site (www.thecrankyoldgnome.com) he gets an error that says windows cannot find the host name “thecrankyoldgnome.com” using DNS.
I have no idea what that means. And again, everyone else seems to be able to view it fine.
Oh also he says that he cleared his history and cache and temporary files.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your blog is working
http://ismyblogworking.com/www.thecrankyoldgnome.com
It’s just that it takes a while for the domain name to travel to all the name servers on the Internet, and it also depends on how often your Internet provider updates their name servers. I can see your blog fine from here. -
I think, there is no route from your friend’s ISP to wordpress hosting server. Or maybe the line is down for a while,
Try to ping your blog from your friend’s computer, so you can know whether that the problem is in the web browser or in the ISP.
