Windows Live transplant needing help with linking other websites to my blog
-
Hello all :)
I’ve spent the morning looking through the FAQ and forum posts both here and on Windows live and can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. When I surf the web and find a website that I think is cool, I used to be able to just right click anywhere on that page and have the option to “Blog with Windows Live.” When I did that it would automatically direct me to the new post software and put “Talking about <name of site>” on the title with a hyper link on the first line of the body of the post. Now that I have transfered to wordpress, I either get directed to sign into my windows live profile and then get an error message saying that the blog doesn’t exist anymore, or I get redirected to my main page of the wordpress blog, not the window to post a new blog. I can go to the “new post” section myself from the main page, but then I don’t have the automatic hyper link.
When searching the forums i did find the “how to” put a hyper link into a blog post (which is exactly how you do it on any other forum that I’ve ever been on), and also about the blogrolls, but I want to know how I can get the right click menu option to work like it did for Windows Live for WordPress. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you have.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t know about the right-click menu but you can use the “Press this” bookmarklet to blog at the press of a button.

ok, so I tried to get this bookmarklet, but I can’t seem to be able to click and drag it onto my favorites bar. I’m not seeing any troubleshooting for that either. am I missing something?

Dragging works with the latest versions of most browsers. If that doesn’t work you could try right-clicking, then copy link address and then add a bookmark manually (in firefox this is through the bookmarks menu)

Try doing the Cookie Dance first; log out of WP.com, clear browser cache and cookies, restart computer. That might help.
WP does need to improve Press This, though. It can’t hold a candle to Tumblr’s Share on Tumblr button, for instance.

i’ve tried clearing the cache and cookies of IE. I also tried copying the shortcut as well, but there isn’t a place in my favorites to add link to the pop up window that I get when I actually click on the words “Press This” in my tools section. The only time I was able to click and drag the link was when I went to this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/tag/bookmarklet/ However, when I press that button on my favorites bar it takes me to http://en.support.wordpress.com/press-this/ instead of bringing up the pop up window. :( I like the pop up window, it does what I was looking for from my right click menu that I had with windows live. Why can’t I get it to work? Any other suggestions?

well I was able to get Press This to work on Chrome, but not IE8. So, atm, it’s either I not use it in IE or I get used to Chrome.

I am not entirely sure but I THINK I remember them saying something about IE no longer being supported in Press This.

I just downloaded IE9 and it works in there. So maybe IE8 was just outdated for Press This…..Thanks for all the help

This information should be clear on the tools page, so that other people don’t waste time on it
