Windows Live Writer 2011 alignment issue

So, at the suggestion from a member in another forum thread, I decided to try Windows Live Writer. Downloaded the latest release and it seemed wonderful. Only now I can’t get any text that I enter to center. Everything stays left aligned regardless of what I click. Is this me, or is it buggy like that?

I’m using the Manifest theme, and it supposedly loaded correctly when I set up WLW.

    Halp?!?!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did you select the text you wanted centered first and then click the “center” text alignment button?

Yawp. (Did you just call me stupid . . . ;-)

Here’s what I just posted on the WLW forum:

“So, at the suggestion of a friend, I downloaded WLW2011 this morning and, out of the box, it looks like fun. So I hook it up with my WP.com account and download the theme and all seems peachy. Only now, I can’t get any text to center align. I click on the “center text” button in the paragraph tab, and get nothing. If I try to add numbers or bullets by clicking those buttons, then the text centers. But, I don’t want bullets or numbers. I just want the text centered. In preview, still no centering of text.”

    Such a silly thing . . .

You know, forgive us, but we have to ask the stupid questions. I don’t know how many times I’ve not asked it and when I do, I get “OMG that was it!” as a reply.

Since I dumped the Windows partition off my MacBook Pro, I no longer have WLW to play with so I’m afraid I can’t help you.

Just by chance, can you center text from within the wordpress post editor and have it actually show up? I’m asking because there have been a few instances where something was left out of a theme stylesheet or something. If you can center in the wordpress editor, then it means it is something to do with WLW.

Also, in WLW, select a paragraph, click the center button and then view the HTML and see if you see any center alignment stuff around that text.

    Not a problem. Just ribbin’ ya . . .

Bummer you don’t use WLW anymore. It looks like it has potential, but this one thing is discouraging me.

I have a test blog. So using a hint I found from another user, I deleted the downloaded theme from WLW2011. Doing that, I’m able to get the text to center. But when I post it to my site, using the Manifest theme with no CSS alterations, it still doesn’t center align. So just for fun, I opened my Word 2007, did a quick post with centered text, and it posted fine. Centered and everything.

Wondering if WLW still have a few wrinkles to iron out . . .

WLW has been extremely solid (sort of the anti-matter version of Vista). When I was playing around with it, I was wanting them to introduce a Mac version (not likely to happen). I know a lot of people using it without issues. Try switching your test site to a different theme and see what happens. Like I said, there is always the chance it is something with the theme rather than with WLW.

I have been using WLW with the Theme 2010 and I take issues with some of the things WLW does – the formatting and centering has been working fine (just posted a new article this morning with some centered text) – I did have some centering issues sticking with the move onto my site if I remember correctly when I did not highlight all the text I wanted to center.

Sorry I don’t have anything beyond what @TSP has suggested.
