Windows Live Writer: good, bad or ugly?
-
Just read about it online, and was wondering – is it something that lots of WordPress bloggers use? What is the overall assessment?
thank you!

I have reviewed all the alternatives for offline blog editors available. The two I recommend for PC users are windowsliewriter and BlogDesk. The review is found here http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2007/10/26/offline-blog-editors-reviews/

You’re welcome. Here’s the link to wordpress.COM documentation on windowslivewriter as well http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

Thanks again…
I downloaded the software, and registered my blog – now “all” I have to do is learn the new tricks of the trade. Seems pretty straightforward, I like the flexibility of moving text around images, things like that.
(I read your review, nice job!)

Me again, bringing this thread back to life….
I’ve got problems….
when I first installed the software, things seemed to work properly, but this past weekend I tried to compose my first blog post using WIndows Live writer, and the backspace key stopped working. Once that happens, I cannot select text with the mouse either, so I’m pretty much stuck and unable to work with it.
If I open a new post it sometimes fixes the problem, but often it doesn’t.
Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think my copy is somehow corrupted and I should uninstall and download it again?
THanks

I use a Firefox Firefox/3.5.5 browser. and have never had such a problem.I would try uninstalling and reinstalling. Alternatively, you could try using BlogDesk http://www.blogdesk.org/en/download.htm

Thanks,
I think I’ll give a try first uninstalling and downloading again – the whole thing is pretty huge, I am probably going to download only the writer and see if it would work for me
from what I read in your review, Windowslive is exactly what I was hoping for.
will report back…

Well, timethief, you did not get rid of me yet… :-)
I am attempting it again, this time I think I have the WindowsLive ready to go, but I got this message earlier in the setup that says WindowsLive won’t be able to use my blog’s style
any ideas if only some designs of WordPress are fully compatible with the Writer? I really like my page (Cutline), would prefer not to change it.
am I misunderstanding something?
Thanks for your (or anyone else ) help

I did my first post using Windows Live, all seems fine.
For the time being….. this thread can be put to rest
