Windows Live Writer, I Love Ya!

My blog is http://www.sotsil.wordpress.com. Just want to share a blurb here about Windows Live Writer which others may find helpful. In one or two threads, I noticed that sacredpath had recommended using Windows Live Writer. Because I was having a hard time scavenging for codes on the Internet, I decided I would try Live Writer to see if it might inspire me to continue blogging.
I just love it! Live Writer will actually give everything to you on a silver platter (well almost everything), and you have nothing to worry about with respect to coding, positioning your images, changing font colors, and adding plug-ins. All you need to do is write your content. It will even schedule your blog for a future publication date.
    But take heed:
    1) Do all your editing on Live Writer. Keep your blog with Live Writer until you’re 100% sure you’re ready for it to transfer your blog. My mistake was starting with Live Writer, having it posted, and then editing it on blogger Blogger (I also have a blog on blogger about translation), and by doing that, I screwed up the formatting. I had inserted a table but when I edited it on blogger, the table went so far below I had this large chunk of white space and didn’t know how to correct it.
    2) When inserting images, Live Writer will take you to a window where your pictures are, so there is no need for me to go to photobucket. Now, I don’t know if this is safe practice but I have yet to find out if Live Writer will actually get pictures from the Internet.
So far, it’s working well. In my first 4 posts on word press, I had atrocious formatting because of large white spaces. Now that I’ve started with live writer, the formatting problem should no longer give me hemorrhoids.
In summary, folks, I highly recommend it.
Would love to hear tips/comments from others!

Yeah, I wish they made it for Mac’s.

Ha-ha, sacredpath. You’d think Microsoft would give Apple an apple? Competition. Would you say I’m safe with Live Writer having access to my pictures folder?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yeah, it isn’t a problem.

I’m hoping that Ecto will add some of the features that WLW has in their next major upgrade.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Who’s Ecto?
By the way, I forgot to say this to potential users of live writer: live writer will schedule your blog for a future date (scroll below and click on the date you want, right hand margin) and will also do your category. But once you’ve asked live writer to post on your blog (word press or other blog), you have to log in to your blog and change “draft” to “scheduled.” Live writer will schedule, not publish so you have to manually schedule it yourself on word press. Not that it takes 2 seconds. Just hitting the “publish” button should do it.
(Boy, it sure feels good to be share a tip here instead of begging for instruction all the time. I know that I’ll have a lot of questions when I decide I want to get more sophisticated…)

Couldn’t agree more about Live Writer, just love it and don’t know how I survived without it, no really I don’t !!!

I prefer to use the microsoft Word Blog Writer. Seems to be that bit better than Live Writer.

I have to say I’m quite fond of Windows Live Writer too. It’s very novice friendly and at the same time it provides A LOT of advanced tools for the more tech inclined users. WordPress+Windows Live Writer is definitely a great combination for bloggers. :D

    @ sotsil

I also us Windows Live Writer. It is a jewel. I love the ease and functionality it brings to blogging. Tables ease photo placement. My scheduled articles post ate the scheduled time from Live Writer. I do not have to do anything w/i WP to publish the article. After you set the time to publish, do you select publish to send the article to WordPress? Also, I’m not have problems editing LW published articles in WP. –jim

Hello to all who sent in their comments. Glad you all agree.
Dickiebo, what is the difference between Windows Live Writer and Microsoft Word Blog Writer? I thought they were the same.
Manilabeans, I have not used the advanced tools yet. Which ones do you recommend?
Jalexartis: didn’t know I could actually publish from Live Writer. If you’re not having problems editing from word press, you must know a bit of code. What happens on Blogger is when I use tables (I have to use tables for my Blogger blog because I do translation), the table goes way, way down, creating this large white space (ugly). Have you used tables?
Yes, the happysnapper, live writer is a jewel we all can’t do without.

    @ sotsil

I have not used WLW with blogger, but have over 4 years experience with blogger. I use multiple tables [some nested]in my posts. Yes, I know some code. With WLW & the WP edit function, I’m able to achieve the appearance I want. –jim

Blessed are those who know code. Bodes well…
