Wish to move existing Domain Name to a New WordPress.com blog.
-
I’m working with a person who currently has a website under her registered Domain Name (registered at Network Solutions). I’ve been able to replicate the content in a test blog here and we both agree that a move here is appropriate. She wants to open an account, start a blog and associate that blog with her registered Domain Name.
Herein Lies The Problem: Network Solutions is unwilling to allow us access to edit the Domain Name entries. We have a standing agreement with a third party ISP who has been able to make edits for us. We would rather wrest control from Network Solutions completely and have the Domain registered with Wild West (or whoever handles the DNS for WordPress.com). Who can we contact and what are the steps in doing this?We want to move the DNS registration here because:
1. We want to associate a blog with the Domain.
2. We can edit the DNS entries.
3. We can move the email to be handled by gmail by appropriate editing of the DNS entries (I’ve successfully done this with my blog).
4. We are really sick of Network Solutions and their unwillingness to allow us access to our DNS entries.
5. Everything here at WordPress.com seems to work properly and I’m quite happy to have everything here. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.COM / Wild West Domains is not set up to accept transfers of domain names into the system – if you don’t like Network Solutions you would need to move from them to another registrar – but you can’t move to WordPress.COM.
It seems odd that NS will not allow you (or your representative) edit the name servers as that is a common change.

OK, thanks for the info. I’ll try again with NS; the last time I tried to get in and edit they insisted I move the website to their associated hosting servers. I talked with a rep there and we went around until it was evident they weren’t going to help. Perhaps I’ll find another way to wrest control.
Several years ago we registered the domain through a 3rd party ISP at NS. That ISP has been kind enough to continue to edit the DNS entries for us. They also continue to run our mail servers. But I want to bring the website to WP and run the email through gmail.

Very often it just depends on who answers the phone that day. Try again and you may get a more helpful person this time.

Yes, I went back again and had absolutely no problem at all working with Network Solutions online. I think my problem was with my own ignorance and hence my inability to make myself understood. My own denseness probably confused someone. When I went back online everything was quite evident. I had no problem moving to the WordPress domain servers.
