Wish to restore published post accidentally moved to drafts section without altering date or details

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi I accidentally moved a published post to draft. And now it has the ‘draft’ label to it; instead of ‘Update,’ it has ‘Publish’ button.

This means if I republish it today, it will show today’s publish date rather than the original date of publishing. I don’t wish to alter the date or details of post; just want to restore it to published section. Can anyone please help?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi there,

This means if I republish it today, it will show today’s publish date rather than the original date of publishing.

In this specific case, if you publish it will appear to use the original publication date, not “today’s date” or the date you re-publish. You are safe to publish your post again. :)

Also worth noting that you can back-date a post if you wish to change the publication date at any point (as a draft or after it’s published) without issue: https://wordpress.com/support/schedule-a-post-or-page/#backdating

If you pick a date in the future, it will instead have the effect of scheduling the post, so it will publish automatically once it hits the date you set.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi, thank you so much for your prompt response, and for your tip to alter the publishing date! Will keep in mind.
