Wishlist: Replacing Zemanta functionality

Since Zemanta integration has been removed and the intent is to incorporate some functionality natively in the editor, I thought I’d provide my wishlist of desired features:
#1. My favorite Zemanta feature was the suggestions for, and easy, single-click addition of links to, Wikipedia entries for terms and names in my text. I used this feature regularly; I used all other Zemanta features rarely.
#2. Do not require use of the Visual editor to get these features. I prefer the text editor & it was annoying to have to flip to visual in order to get the Zemanta functionality.

And I used it for recommended tags. I hope WP either bring back Zemanta OR they add a recommended tags section!

The thing is, Zemanta unfortunately doesn’t work in the WordPress’s default Dashboard anymore, but can be easily re-installed via our browser extension.
It comes with all the features you’re already used to (images, in-text links, related posts & tags) and is really easy to set it up. Just follow the link to our downloads page and install the appropriate extension for your browser.

one important feature I like about zemanta is that links to related posts cause a pingback, and I actually can decide on my own if some posting is really related to mine or not. zemanta is definitely not perfect in deciding what is related, but it’s perfect for allowing the blogger to reach out to other bloggers with common interests. most of my traffic is due to zemanta, somehow I doubt “Related Posts” will manage to attract the desired audience to my site. so the major feature request I have for wordpress.com is a feature where I can perform a search for related postings before I submit my new blog-entry! preferable including such search-results should be a matter of a single click…
