Wistia video embedding

    Hey WordPress forum friends,

I’ve been asked about this a few times before, and it seems so have you, but it seems things haven’t moved on this front in a while–getting Wistia videos to be compatible inside WordPress.com blogs. There were some old threads that showed it was not possible, and there was also a very recent one: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/any-chance-of-wordpresscom-supporting-wistia-embed?replies=3#post-2205918

As someone who works in Wistia support, as well as has his hands deep on the integrations front, I can’t help but be curious what it is that WordPress needs from the Wistia end of things to make this a possibility.

In that last thread, Jeremy mentioned having looked over our documentation to see if it was possible, but did not find what he was looking for–I’d love to know what that is!

Anyhow, should there be any interest in making this happen, or if y’all need anything from the Wistia end of things, definitely shoot me an email or just reply here! You can get me via email, it’s just [redacted].

    Cheers and thanks for listening,
    Jordan

As a Wistia and WordPress customer, I think this would be just brilliant :)

    Hi Jordan,

Thanks for the kind offer of help! I have passed it along to our developers and have made a case for adding a Wistia embed. You may also want to explore our Developer site at https://developer.wordpress.com/ where you might find some additional information which you find interesting (specifically, check out https://developer.wordpress.com/docs/oembed-provider-api/).

I have also redacted your email address, but made a note of it for our records. I don’t want you get spammed or anything!

I’ll let you know as soon as I have any information for you.

Hey @amightywp, thanks for that, much appreciated. Not immediately sure how those links apply to getting Wistia embeds in WordPress, but very good to know they exist!

Anyhow, just in case it’s helpful, here’s our documentation for using Wistia with the oEmbed protocol:
    http://wistia.com/doc/oembed

We also have Embedly support for Wistia videos: http://embed.ly/provider/wistia

Anyhow, thanks again, and definitely don’t hesitate to get in touch if y’all need anything from the Wistia side of things to make this happen! :)

    Cheers,
    Jordan

It would be great if you could get Wistia integrated. I assume a lot of people will move over after Vimeos recent copyright implementations.

I have a travel blog and used Vimeo before for the videos, but they would even delete if the song is just running for a few seconds or if im talking is constantly interrupting the song. Hopefully Wistia will not go the same path!

If you could keep us updated about the process please? Any rough idea what the earliest possible time of integration would be should you decide to add the Wistia support?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

I don’t have any at this time. There is interest in adding the embed and it has been added to our roadmap, but I don’t have any timeline on when it will get taken care of I’m afraid.

As soon as it is, I will let you know!
