Withheld owner privileges

    Hello,

We are a small school that has parent volunteers approach projects such as websites. We have a new website, http://www.summerlandmontessori.com and would like to delete our .wordpress account BUT the disgruntled parent will not give us anything beyond restricted admin privileges. We have deleted pages and content but currently do not know how to proceed with deleting this blog. Unfortunately when you search Summerland Montessor in Google, the wordpress site comes up first. We would like to delete this blog, please help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

DON’T DELETE THE BLOG!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL BE SCREWED

Deleting a blog will not remove it from search results, now when people do a search they go to your WordPress.COM blog – that is OK – if you delete the blog visitors will go into a “blog deleted by owner” and they slam into a wall with no where to go

If you have Admin privileges buy a site redirect to send traffic to your new site

If you don’t have Admin privileges – fix your opening page – make the “we have moved” bigger text and bold, use a header font if needed – currently it is hidden

WordPress.COM will not delete a blog just because you want it deleted – it must be deleted by the blog owner

Thanks so much for your advice, I was pondering what would happen if we deleted the blog. Supposedly we have admin privileges BUT I don’t see a store attached to the dashboard – could this be restricted? (I read in help that this is where I purchase the redirect).

yes the redirect is purchased in the store.

If you don’t have the Store you are probably Editor, an Editor can do almost everything an Admin can do except change themes, buy upgrades and delete a blog.

If you follow the instructions I gave above you should be in not too bad a shape. Make the “Moved” stuff much larger – it is hidden now

Ok, thanks, I will stumble along! I am new to wordpress but do at least have a web design background. Dumb question – do I just hand code the font size in the Edit Post – Text option? I am familiar with dreamweaver, squarespace & webydo.

Dreamweaver and such will rot your mind – or so I am told

Highlight the text – then there is a drop down that you can pick a larger font (use the h something then bold the text) – it’s the second line of the editing options just above the box the text is in – left side of things

Ok, here’s an update. We seem to have found admin codes. There are two blogs attached to the account…. one is the schools and the other is personal. The store is only available on the dashboard of the personal blog. I made the school blog primary but still no store in the dashboard…. any ideas?

You need to be an Admin to see the store in the Dashboard – if you are not seeing the Store you are not an Admin

Look under Dashboard >> Users >> All Users

I can flag this for the staff to help, but they will tell you the same thing, but they can tell you your account status on the blog (Admin, Editor, etc.)

Ok, that might be helpful. As it goes under Manage my Blogs both blogs are listed but only one blog has admin privileges. I could see the users & store on one dashboard but not the other. Is it possible that the 2nd (school) blog listed could be attached to this particular user’s account but have a separate owner & limited privileges? Oy, so close but so far away! Again, thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

The blog owner has unlimited privileges as Admin – neither of your accounts seem to be an admin

I checked and one blog listed under the new account (under My Blogs) is admin and the second blog listed here (the school site) has the limited dashboard. I am confused because this 2nd account has a different username and password than the one I was previously trying to edit the site under. Sigh, one day we’ll get somewhere…. at least for now your advice was golden and we will not pursue deleting the blog!

    You be welcome

Once a blog is deleted ALL your options go away – it takes a while for your new site to start to search, bad to send visitors from search engines to a dead end – with the old blog alive and a link to your new site – the old bookmarks and such will not slam into a wall – way better

    Hi there,

As auxclass mentioned, you can find a full list of all the users on a particular blog under Users > All Users in the blog’s dashboard. Neither of the accounts in this support thread are the owner/administrator of the blog.

You can also learn more about the rights of different users on a blog here: User Roles

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
