without code changed comment title and I don't remember how/2011 theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I changed the title on comments to read something more interesting. I did not change any code. I have no idea how to do that, so it was not done that way, but I managed to do it. I don’t like it and I want to change it again, but I can not for the life of me figure out how I changed it to change it to something else. I am using the twenty eleven theme.

Also, I would like my posts to be listed under the pages when you click on a page, but I cannot see a way to do that either.

    1) Settings > Discussion > scroll down to the bottom: Prompt.

    2) “I would like my posts to be listed under the pages when you click on a page”. What does that mean please?

Thanks ever so much for number one…..you know how it is when you have done something and everyone is tell you it is impossible and you can’t figure out what you did, so really thanks!

    2) What I would like to see happen is that if you click on a category or archive month it lists everything there (titles of posts) for that month or category. How it stands now is that you see this long column of all the posts under the catgegory or archive and it leaves the reader to have to scroll down through all of them, which I think most people would get bored with quick. So, I would like to see some kind of index show up when you click on a category or an archive and the person can click on what post title looks interesting for them instead of sorting through not having the foggiest idea what they will find or if it is worth it. I hope this is clear now and thanks again.

    You’re welcome.

What you’re looking for isn’t directly possible in the theme you’re using. You’d need one of the themes that display post titles or post beginnings on archive pages; see here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/
(Newest themes not listed – see the red note in my sidebar).

The only thing you can do is create a static page for each post category (in Pages > Add new), add links to all the relevant posts on each such page, then create a list of links to those pages in the sidebar (instead of the Categories widget). The drawback, of course, is that you’ll have to update things manually each time you publish a new post.

If that is the case, then why is there a place to create menues and what does that do. I was afraid to try it, because I don’t want to ruin what I have done and not know how to correct it.

If I set the site so that it only shows the first few lines of the post: how do I do that and if I do it (and I would assume it will say something like read more) will the rest show up in a separate tab or will it show up on the blog in a way that you can just hit back to get to the home page or it will say home at the top still

You sent me a link to a site with information, but there were lists of sties under different types but u could not click on them to see the different blog examples of the various types.

    1) The “place to create menues” is there for you to create custom sets of links, either for the top nav menu of the theme or for the sidebar. Details here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/
In theory you can use it to create links to your posts, but there’s a limit to how many items you can successfully accommodate, for various reasons.

    2) See here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
Clicking the read-more tag links to the rest of the post (in the same browser window or tab). You can always get back to the homepage: the top nav menu (which includes the Home link) is present on all blog pages. The blog title is also a back-to-home link.

    3) In the post I linked to I’m listing themes, not sites. You can preview themes in Appearance > Themes, or you can read about them and see them in action here:
