Wix.com and other web hosting popping up
-
Not sure why this is happening, but a few hours ago I stumbled on this problem: when I try to edit a draft and click on the “EDIT” at the bottom of the page, I am directed to a new page offering services by wix.com or other “build your own website” hosts. If I want to edit my post I need to get out of the new page and find the right tab with the WordPress draft open.
It is very annoying and I have no idea what is causing this. If I edit a page four times, I will have four new pages open in all sorts of different sites offering this type of services.
any help?

This is actually much worse than I thought – even if I click on anything on the editor, like “save draft” or add a tag, I get a new tab open for unsolicited stuff…. I use a MacBookPro in case that is relevant info…
really at a loss with this.

Bringing this to the top just in case someone might run into the same problem. After 5 hours with the IT guy, it turns out that I had a pathetic malware infecting my computer, which seems to be rare in a Macintosh, or so I heard.
in case you get into this type of trouble – get help right away from some geek expert, or try the software that worked for us, malewarebytes.com It detected the problem and cleaned it up right away, whereas my regular anti-virus saw nothing…

You can run a free malware check anytime at this link
https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/Enter a URL (ex. sucuri.net) and the Sucuri SiteCheck scanner will check the website for known malware, blacklisting status, website errors, and out-of-date software.
You can also use this free Google Safe Browsing site diagnostic at anytime http://google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://bewitchingkitchen.com/

Thank you! I never imagined I would have this type of problem, I am super careful with downloading anything and visiting websites…
amazing how dependent we can be on technology!

You’re welcome. There’s a silly belief that Macs cannot get viruses and are not malware targets – Ha!

Funny that you mentioned that. Yesterday, in the middle of this nightmare, I decided to search for help in a discussion forum at Apple. Found EXACTLY the description of my problem, in a thread maybe a year old. Started to read, anxiously searching for the solution… Would you believe that the whole HUGE discussion turned into a heated argument about how Macintosh computers are NOT target for malware and this type of problem should not be labeled as such etc etc etc? I almost fell off my chair…. would be funny if I wasn’t so distressed by then…. ;-)

Oh yeah, I do believe that. Many Mac owners are ignorant and as the most ignorant are not in touch with reality can and do suffer from arrogance. I avoid all such exchanges and that’s not because I’m in the know. It’s because I’m a Canuck and I can be polite when unleashing my tongue, if yopu know what I mean … lol :D. I’m busy slaying my ego, not feeding it.
