WMA in Audio Player?

Is there any way that the WordPress audio player could ever be modifed to allow WMA playback? Or perhaps a different, similar audio player could be made available via shortcode that handles WMA? I’ve found that digital recorders increasingly record in WMA only. Converting it to MP3 is not only a hassle, it wastes spaces and loses audio quality.
