Won't let me change site name (it's not a blog)

I followed instructions to change blog (it’s actually a site) name. (’my blogs’ , change name etc.) I hovered over & clicked on the option change name but got this message…”The page requested does not exist
The page you requested does not exist, or you do not have have the necessary privileges to access it. You may return to the dashboard of Rangitikei Enviromental Watch by clicking here.”
I’m lost : (
Wondering also… the message remains … confirm your email address, I’ve clicked on resend email more than once and no email comes. Even more lost on that one too. Pls help!
I want to change from jcrvblog.wordpress.com
to …. rangitikei.envirowatch.wordpress.com
At sign up I’m sure I read ‘don’t worry … it’s easy to change’ or words to that effect. Had realized would have chosen more carefully! -

I made a few adjustments on our end to confirm your email address. You should be able to access your blog normally from now on. Could you try changing your blog’s name again? Please note that changing it to “rangitikei.envirowatch.wordpress.com” is not possible as only letters and numbers are allowed in your blog name.
In addition, I sent you a separate email to check if you’re able to receive emails from us. Would be great to hear from you to confirm.

Just to confirm, I would need to use only lowercase letters also? And no full stops presumably? in which case I could do rangitikeienvirowatch.wordpress.com (or if upper case allowed), RangitikeiEnviroWatch.wordpress.com
I will try changing it when I confirm this.

That’s correct, no full stops or weird *@($&)% characters. Just plain letters and numbers. :) Registering “RangitikeiEnviroWatch” is possible but will be automatically converted to lowercase. Thanks!

OK, reading the instructions I see if I change the address, I will need to pay to redirect traffic. (If this is correct, then it’s a good reason to mention this at sign up … be sure about the user name as it obviously automatically becomes the name of the blog address). It appears at sign up that changing it’s a breeze & no cost mentioned that I recall.
I have no previous traffic as I’ve set it to private until I’ve finished construction. Would I still need to redirect in that case?
Can I delete this and start again, with the correct username cum blog/site address?

Assuming that you set your blog to private right from the start, that means it hasn’t been crawled by search engines yet. In that case, you wouldn’t need the Site Redirect upgrade.

I’m afraid that deleting a site will not free up the blog address and let you reuse it.
