Won’t let me type in a category title

    I am trying to create a category called “BASS”. Notice the all caps and no periods. For some reason it keeps automatically changing to “Bass”. Is this a wordpress issue or an issue with my browser? Does anyone know of a work around?

    The only work around I have come up with thus far is to use “B.A.S.S.”. But that organization prefers the “BASS”, so I would rather do it right.

    Thanks in advance.

    Did you know that search engines “see” everything in lower case?

    It keeps changing to lowercase because you already have that as a tag. Tags and categories are the same thing actually, so you shouldn’t be using the same word or phrase as both a tag and a category: it causes the problem you’re describing plus other problems too.

    What is a work around? Because to the reader BASS and Bass are two different things.

    You will have to add a word to one of them. Like “BASS organization” or something

    I’m picking up on raincoaster’s idea above. Maybe using “Bass (fish)” and “Bass (fishing clubs)” would differentiate one from the other.

    “To the reader BASS and Bass are two different things”. But to search engines they aren’t, as we already explained. The proper solution is to delete the tag if you need the category. Anyway, if you are so keen on having both, you can type this after the word (minus the spaces):

    & n b s p ;

    That’s html for a space that won’t be stripped out, so that technically BASS plus that is a different word.

    I could not get the “& n bs p ;” trick to work.

    I deleted the tag and created a category since that is more important for what I am trying to do. Let me know if you guys think of another work around or have a theory on what I am doing wrong with the “& n b s p ;” trick.

    I understand that search engines see “BASS” and “bass” the same. But once the user comes to my site he may want to click on the category “BASS” to view post about the Bass Anglers Sportsmen’s Society, or he might want to click on the tag “bass” to view articles about the fish.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Why don’t you just use the full name, “Bass Anglers Sportsmen’s Society”? Seems pretty straightforward.

    That sounds perfectly logical raincoaster, but that is like typing “Really Simple Syndication” instead of having the orange RSS symbol…it just isn’t the same.
