woocommerce

Hey there, I have been considering starting up an ecommerce portal on woocommerce and it seems they use wordpress – I am trying to find out if I should sign on with them or simply go without and try it myself. What are the benefits other than the price seems a lot cheaper by skipping on woocommerce and going directly with wordpress. I saw that there were some cybermonday/blackfriday sales – I would like to take advantage of the savings as well.

Hi there! WooCommerce is a plugin which extends the WordPress software into having store functionality. It can’t be used “separately” as such since it’s based on WordPress in the first place.
Essentially you’d be looking at getting:
- Your host of choice (for example: WordPress.com Business plan or eCommerce plan hosting, or alternatively hosting with another company, where you install the WordPress software from WordPress.org)
- WooCommerce plugin (core plugin is free)
- Any extensions you may need for WooCommerce, to help build the type of store you want. Some of these extensions are paid extensions – they’re essentially additional plugins for the WordPress software, but which add more functions to the WooCommerce setup specifically.
WooCommerce.com in particular does not have dedicated hosting at this time – you’d be getting the WooCommerce plugin and possibly extensions from them, but you’d still need a host and WordPress.
What sort of ecommerce site were you thinking of setting up? We’re happy to make a couple of suggestions depending on what you’re looking to do.
