How to set up membership boxes in WooCommerce
-
WooCommerce
Hello we are looking to build a membership website using WooCommerce where a person would buy a monthly membership and based on their membership plan, they get access to specific products.
So say you join for $20 a month: this would give you access to 3 products that we would ship to you.
Where we are stuck is if there is a way to allow a member to order products each month, yet they don’t pay when they order as their monthly membership covers their products?
Yet also say if they get 3 products a month shipped to them, how do we keep track of how many products has purchased?
So say you pay your monthly membership and you get 3 products each month.
So the first week you order 1 product.
Then a few weeks later you log back in and you get 2 more products.
How do we control how many products they have used or have left?

Hi! If I’ve understood you correctly, it sounds like a subscription box setup might be right up your alley. Your subscribers would create a monthly box of products, and they could be allowed to change the bundle if needed.
Use Case: Coffee Beans Subscription Box
Want to take a look at the scenario here and see if it sounds like a good fit? Let us know your thoughts and whether any other considerations need to be factored in. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this information.
Just to clarify then:
- A person could order a subscription and pay once per month.
- This monthly subscription gives the customer a set amount of products they can receive each month.
- It appears that they can either change their product bundles each current month or the next month maybe…
So this is where it gets tricky…
Are the products auto fulfilled?
So say you are a customer and you sign up for the subscription plan. In that plan you get to choose from 3 products each month.
Can you go in and select the products any time of the month or does it have to be predetermined before the next billing cycle?

The guide says they will be able to “modify the contents of their personalized subscription box mid-term” with the suggested configuration.
So I would imagine the box will renew-as is if they don’t modify their subscription, and I would also suppose they can’t modify the box after it’s shipped, but I am not sure how/where you would set any cutoff dates. I believe Woo gives you an option to test premium plugins on a “spin-up” site if you want to try that and tinker a bit. I’m just not sure whether that’s set up to support multiple plugins like this case, so you might double check with their sales.
Or, is there a particular configuration you’d be going for that’s different from what that article describes? I could run that past some WooCommerce colleagues.
