woocommerce

Hi. I am interested in opening a web shop store at wordpress.com (25 usd). I have a couple of questions about it:
1. Do I have to have a wordpress in the background or can I open a web shop directly at woocommerce.com?
2. How do you protect from my boot script, malware, and spam my login form, buyer account form, reset password form, contact form, and how to protect the checkout form from fake orders?
3. Do I opt-in my database automatically or do I have to manually clean it from the remaining data (unfinished purchases, deleted pages, deleted products …)?
4 Webshop will sell in the countries of Croatia and Slovenia, the payment gateway will be corvuspay, so can any such shop open at wordpress.com or the woocommerce.com site for sales opportunities in those countries?
5. Do I have an auto-backup backup of my website and database and how often do you do it?
Thank you

Hi –
Thanks for writing to us. I’m happy to help you sort out these question.
Let me start by explaining that there are 2 versions of WordPress. You can run your own standalone installation, with a separate hosting provider, known as WordPress.org. OR you can use the managed environment of WordPress.com, no hosting required, and a dedicated support staff to help you.
The differences are outlined on this page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
With WordPress.com, you can install the WooCommerce plugin once you’ve upgraded to the business plan. Those details are here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ It’s a $300/per year fee.
1. Do I have to have a wordpress in the background or can I open a web shop directly at woocommerce.com?
WooCommerce is a plugin, so you need a software to add that on to, you can’t just open up a WooCommerce shop with no background site set up. Does that make sense?
2. How do you protect from my boot script, malware, and spam my login form, buyer account form, reset password form, contact form, and how to protect the checkout form from fake orders?
Business sites, and WordPress.com sites are protected from our in house security measures. You can also add security plugins to your business plan site, but it’s going to be preinstalled with Jetpack and Akismet. These plugins also offer back ups. Every change you make to the site can be reversed one step at a time. Does that help?
3. Do I opt-in my database automatically or do I have to manually clean it from the remaining data (unfinished purchases, deleted pages, deleted products …)?
Can you share a bit more about this?
4 Webshop will sell in the countries of Croatia and Slovenia, the payment gateway will be corvuspay, so can any such shop open at wordpress.com or the woocommerce.com site for sales opportunities in those countries?
There are a bunch of payment gateway extensions that you can use as part of the WooCommerce plugin. See here: https://woocommerce.com/product-category/woocommerce-extensions/payment-gateways/
5. Do I have an auto-backup backup of my website and database and how often do you do it?
We will take care of that with those preinstalled plugins mentioned above.

Thank you very much for the information. I’m interested in a business plan at wordpress.com hosting, but i miss the way to get in touch with the official support before I pay 25 usd for the business plan.
My desire is to launch a web shop on wp + wocommerce, but I’m very concerned about security. The Paymet gateway will be a plugin from the Croatian company corvuspay and I’m not sure if I will be able to install such a plugin at wordpress.com because it is not a standard and common plugin.
I’m also concerned about the security of my site, for the security of the checkout process, and I care about the backup of the entire site and database and a lightweight restore method.
I’m not sure whether wordpress.com is doing database optimization on a regular basis or I need it through wpcashe or similar plugins.
I have a lot of questions but I do not know how to ask the official before I buy a business plan at wordpress.com.
Is there a live chat before I pay 25 usd?
Tnx.

You’re in touch with staff support right now, so no worries there. Once you buy the upgrade you can talk privately with staff.
If you host your site with us, we manage security for your WordPress installation and we take care of backups and caching. If you want a plugin for fraud prevention on your cart, you can add that; it would be supported by its authors.
Your payment gateway shouldn’t be an issue with the business plan, but if you have trouble with it you can get in touch and we’ll help.
Please note it is a yearly charge, by the way, so while you can see the monthly cost you would need to pay for the year. Note as well, you can request a refund if our setup does not work well for you.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I did not understand this about the payment, can I pay 25 usd each month, or do I have to pay 300 usd for the whole year in advance?
I no need too many plugins, with wordpress I need woocommerce and another payment gatewey plugin. I’m a little worried that a future upgrading of the wordpress or woocomerc or payment plugins will put my webshop in an incorrect state.
The good news is that you are concerned about the security and backup of the entire site and database. For akismet it is said that it is free for personal use only, does that mean I have to pay extra akismet if I use a wordpress business plan?
Tnx.

Hi there,

You have to pay the whole year in advance. The monthly billing is there to better compare the plans with other hosts.

This can happen whenever you choose to host your site. However, well-known and popular plugins like WooCommerce tend to adapt faster to changes made in WordPress and therefore I wouldn’t worry much.
For akismet it is said that it is free for personal use only, does that mean I have to pay extra akismet if I use a wordpress business plan?
No. Akismet is included and already preconfigured in the Business plan.
If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you. Your answers are very positive.
I’m not sure whether credit card payments can be configured and paypal billed. Default currency for bank cards is Croatian kuna hrk, and paypal defaults to usd.
We will also buy a google business mail, so I would like the ability to automatically send the wp generated email to the customer as it was sent from our business email address.
tnx

If I buy a wordpress.com business plan, are the upgrades (wordpress version, woocommerce plugin, payment gateway plugin) automated or I have to manually work through the admin panel?
I would also install the android version of the wordpress app, so am I wondering if this mobile app allows me to view my order in the woocommerce?

This is something you’ll need to verify with PayPal directly, or whichever payment processor you decide to use. We can help you get the plugin installed and working on your site, but we don’t control how they work or the policies of the respective providers.

This needs to be configured from within whichever ecommerce plugin you decide to use. For example, you can find the instructions how to do this in WooCommerce here:
https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/configuring-woocommerce-settings/#section-18

No. The WordPress.com Business Plan does not include any premium plugins. If you want to make use of paid plugins from any provider, including WooCommerce, you need to buy that particular plugin directly from that provider.
I would also install the android version of the wordpress app, so am I wondering if this mobile app allows me to view my order in the woocommerce?
The WordPress mobile app only allows you to manage built-in features of WordPress, with the emphasis being on post, page and comment management. The app does not even include the Customizer, for example. So it also does not let you manage things added by external plugins, like products and orders from an ecommerce plugin.
But there is a WooCommerce app currently in the beta-testing phase that will allow you to manage your products and orders.

You misunderstand me. I wonder if WordPress.com automates WordPress and Woocommerce upgrades when they’re available ? Or do I make manual upgrades through the wp interface?
-
We do all software updates for you automatically on WordPress.com. You can disable automatic updates for plugins like WooCommerce, but we don’t recommend it.
-
Thanks for the reply. Are these actions automated at wordpress.com or I need to manually make them occasionally ?
-optimize database tables
-clean old post revision
-clean auto-draft post
-clean all trashed post ( or products or page )
-Remove unapproved comments -
optimize database tables
There is no FTP or database access on WordPress.com, and we block plugins that exist for the sole purpose of directly modifying the database, as they invariably break sites by removing database entries WordPress.com relies on to work correctly.
clean old post revision
There is no way to clear out old post revisions on WordPress.com, and it’s not something that happens in the self-hosted version of WordPress either that I know of. As there’s no cap on the amount of memory available to your site this shouldn’t ever be an issue.
clean auto-draft post
There is no way to automatically delete old draft posts, and it’s also not a feature of the WordPress software itself. You might be able to add this functionality via a plugin.
clean all trashed post ( or products or page )
Trashed content is cleared 30 days after it is trashed.
Remove unapproved comments
As with draft posts, the WordPress software does not ever automatically delete unapproved comments, and neither does WordPress.com. There might exist a plugin that will do this for you, but I don’t know of anything specific.

I have a domain for a business, and domain administration can only work in Carnet’s Croatian interface. An example is visible from the attached image, so I’m wondering whether wodpress.com will offer me the requested information (NS) so I can redirect the domain to my wordpress.com site?

We do not support DS records on WordPress.com, and we won’t be able to issue a security certificate for your domain if you have DNSSEC enabled on it.
You also cannot point a domain to us by adding NS records on the domain, unless it’s for a subdomain. To point a domain to us you need to change the domain’s apex name servers to give us control over the DNS, as explained here:
