Word breaks in Gutenberg
-
Hello,
I just converted a wordpress.com site from classic editor to Gutenberg. It created awkward word breaks (breaking mid word) in a table with two columns. I’ve check the code and that’s not the reason. Is there a way to force Gutenberg to not break mid-word? (Also it won’t allow me to force break before the word. It does weird spacing things). The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s actually part of the styling of the theme you chose, you’ll see the line breaks in your normal content too.
To change that, either choose a new theme, or upgrade to a Premium plan or higher which would allow Custom CSS: https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/
If you go the Custom CSS route, simply add this under CSS in the Customizer:
.entry-content, .entry-summary, .page-content, .comment-content { -moz-hyphens: none; hyphens: none; word-wrap: normal; } -
Why did I not see these “line breaks” in the classic editor? I never had an issue until I switch to Gutenberg.

Gutenberg is more designed to emulate what people will see on your site, line breaks and all.
The Classic Editor never did that, but the line breaks still appear on your site.
For example, one of your older pages from the Classic era: https://janegibsonnatttravelwriting.wordpress.com/pitching-tips/ – screenshot: https://cld.wthms.co/AWBbtI
So, to re-cap, Gutenberg is not _adding_ hyphens, it’s properly reflecting how your site will style the post, which Classic never did.

Hello, I didn’t say it was adding hyphens. It’s simply break the words into two lines in the middle (no hyphens). As in:

And may I ask what size screen you are viewing the pitching tips page on. Because I’ve just gone to 5 different computers with 5 different screen sizes and I cannot get it to display that way for me. -
I am using a 13 inch MacBook and see the pitching tips post exactly as my colleague shared in that screen shot.
