Word copy and paste problem.

Please don’t direct me to the WordPress tutorial, I have read it. I work in Word and am happy to paste into Live Writer and then into my blog but for Live Writer to retain my formatting (bold and italics) I need a certain plug in. I went to the Live writer plug in gallery and there I found two solutions for my problem. I downloaded both but they won’t install, I get redirected to a WordPress and Windows Live shared page that states that: “This Windows Live Space is no longer available.” How do I get these plug ins to install or is there another way?

Plugins are not supported on WordPress.com for security reasons. They are a feature only available for self-hosted blogs provided through WordPress.org. You can read more about it here:
    http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/

WordPress.com comes with tons of extra features built-in, so chances are, you can achieve your goal without needing to install a plugin.

I am wondering about your content creation process and what assistance I can provide to make it easier and so that your formatting is preserved better.

One thing that you can try is to connect your Windows Live Writer to your WordPress.com account and publish to your blog directly from there. You can see this support article for more information: http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

It sounds like you’ve already read our support article about using Microsoft Word cleanly, but don’t want to use it. It does preserve bold and italic formatting – maybe you want to give it another try?

    HI Jenia,

I will take any advice you can give me. Firstly let me say this, i have connected my blog to my Live writer account but even Life Writer says itself that it doesn’t support Word formatting without the plug in, they direct you to the plug in gallery, which as you mention in your reply does not work for my blog. I do use the paste in word feature on my blog and if you click on the link you supplied, you will see half way down that it says that you will loose all your formatting from Word so unless I’m doing it wrong or misunderstanding that doesn’t work either. I’m going nuts with this problem and a lot is my work is already done so writing in Live writer isn’t really an option for things that is already written in Word.
I’m not sure what you mean with content creation process but I’ll tell you what I do. I create a page then paste from Word into the “paste from word” button then insert it into the page. That was what the tutorial showed to do. PLEASE Help!!!!

Just to be sure, when you are inserting text from Word into your WordPress.com blog, do you click on “Paste from Word” button rather than “Paste as plain text button”? The former will preserve your bold/italic formatting while removing extraneous formatting like div tags, while the latter will remove all formatting, including bold and italics.

Could you please test it on your blog: take some text that you would like to create a blog post with, paste directly into WordPress.com using the “Paste from Word” button, save and see how the formatting came through?

Step by step this is what I do: I go to my Word doc and copy. I open my dashboard in WordPress, go to pages, click on paste from Word, paste what I copied from Word, click insert, then publish. The formatting doesn’t ever appear, not even when I paste it into the small “paste from Word window”. It doesn’t seem to come along with the paste. There isn’t a save button, only a publish one or save to draft. No matter which one I choose it still does not bring the formatting along with it.

  • Unfortunately, it won’t work all the time. Word has quite a bit of proprietary formatting that we can’t translate, especially the most recent versions.

If you really have to write the post in something like Word first, and the Paste from Word button isn’t working for you, try Windows Live Writer: http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/
