Word Count on Blogroll Post

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey Folks,

Anyone know how to control the word count in the text shown on a blog post on the blogroll for Chronicle theme? For example, on my blogroll, one post has the first sentence of my post, and another post has almost the entire paragraph. I’d like to be able to write a quick summary or intro sentence for all my posts instead.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,

You can control the excerpt that displays alongside each of your posts on the home page by placing a More Tag at the point you wish for the excerpt to end. More information on the More Tag, including steps to add one, can be found here:

Another option is for you to create custom excerpts for your posts:

    Excerpts

Let me know if that helps out or if you have any extra questions.

Thanks very much, siobhyb! Just what I was looking for.

But since you asked, there is one other thing I can’t figure out. Why are some images next to posts on the homepage different sizes? Most on mine are one size, but two are larger than the rest. I assumed that WordPress just scales all images to fit the block size. Is it because of the size of image I’m setting as a feature image?

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,

The themes scales featured images to a set width. If the height of the original image is therefore significantly larger than the width then it will be scaled appropriately on the home page.

Hope that’s clear! We’re right here if you have any extra questions.

    Thanks very much, siobhyb!

I kind of figured that out as I played with it. Sorry for all the dumb questions, I’m a slow learner. I appreciate your help.

    Take care,
    Joe
