word count while writing post?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

I can’t find the stat telling me how many words are in my post as I type it. Please don’t tell me it’s gone away forever, because it’s very helpful. (ie, I know when to split a post because it’s too long, or because *I* have gone on for too long and need to edit myself.)

Is it truly gone, or am I missing the obvious?

    Thanks!

It vanished for me as well last week, but everyone else says they can still see it. Very odd. What browser and version are you using? And can you see the word count on an old post when you open it up for editing?

I composed an entry on my blog this afternoon, and the word count feature was present. Following the WP 2.5 Dashboard’s Write New Post UI “upgrade,” the word count feature is absent.

It is absent in both IE and Firefox 2.0.0.13, as well as in both New Post and when editing existing entries.

I realize that others are having more serious issues with the new dashboard’s functionality, but I am particularly attached to the word count feature. Will it be re-implemented in time?

I noticed the word count had gone too – and not too happy about it; also, the managed view of posts says things like ‘3 hrs ago’ and ‘in 12 hours’ for recent/fortchoming (scheduled) posts.

BUT that means i can’t have a quick glance at the list to check i’ve scheduled a post for every day… instead, i have to look at what time/date it is, do a quick calculation adding/taking hours away, etc to check i have a post out on each day.

I don’t know how much user testing they did, but ny immediate response to the new dashboard is ‘it sucks’…

I just tested old Pages and Post and found that indeed the ‘word count’ has disappeared for me. I am using a Windows IE browser, by the way. I guess I’ll have to do the hard way and let one of my word document programs count the words for me prior to ‘pasting’ the data into my WordPress.com account for publishing.

I never used the feature before. I noticed it in glancing, though. Just tried it. Yeah, seems to be gone (XP using Firefox 2.0.0.13). Perhaps it’s something they have yet to fix. I’ve seen bugs being squashed in the hours I’ve been monitoring here.

I had the word-count feature up until The Big Change was made today. It’s a feature I particularly like, so am hoping it will be brought back soon.

yup, it’s a great feature. don’t take it away please…

    Seconded, thirded, etc.

I love word count and I need it because my blog entries are graded. And that grade is based, in part, on length.

Now I have to copy and paste into OO Writer to see how long something is.

This will be fixed – sorry!

    Thank goodness, and thank you.

Thank you! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who found that feature useful.

I know others are having far more serious issues, so I appreciate your help.

Great! I’ve been missing this just today as I keep my posts within a certain word range and like to know when I’m nearing it! (Using Mac OS X and Firefox 2.0.0.12)

Any further news on the restoration of the word count?
