word document download link without a post

  i am trying to add a word doc (a survey) that i don’t want to publish as a post or page on my site. rather i want to send out the link via email, so when they click on it the doc downloads and they can fill it out and email back…

  right now the doc is in my media library, but when i copy and paste the link, instead of downloading i get one of those coded gibberish pages in my browser… any suggestions?

  Hi there,

  One option would be to link directly to the permalink for the file, open the file in your media library and the permalink will be listed directly under the name field.

  thanks – yea i think that’s what i did, but in chrome when i copy and paste that link, instead of downloading, it opens a gibberish code page in my browser…

  are you suggesting something different than what i described above?

  1) upload the doc as a new media file
  2) copy the link from that page..
